The definition of a cliché is “a hackneyed theme”…Gee, thanks dictionary, now I have to go look up hackneyed! The definition of that word means “lacking in freshness or originality”. So a cliché is in essence a phrase/expression that is lacking in originality. That’s a fairly unappealing descriptor which should make us wonder why we use clichés, especially when we’re encouraging other Christians.
