Proclaiming the Parables – “The Sower”

Proclaiming the Parables – “The Sower”

This parable brought back many memories of my high school days and farming with my dad and grandpa. We farmed near Galchutt, ND and were blessed with an abundance of rich, black Red River valley soil, but some of the cropland also contained a mixture of clay. Regardless of the crop (beans or wheat), the growth and harvest was always better in the black soil over that of the clay mixture. Jesus uses a similar figure when he compares the condition of the soil to the condition of one’s heart in the parable of the Sower, and observes how the harvest will reflect the soil. This week we will cover Mark 4:1-20 as we learn why the soil is so important to the Sower.
