I drink lots of coffee. And being your standard Lutheran pastor, since I preach in “three’s” I also drink in “three’s”…one pot in the morning, one pot in the afternoon, a one pot in the evening! That said, whenever Gloria invites me to accompany her to a craft show or arts fair I am motivated by a singular thought…finding another coffee mug to purchase. And not your random, run-of-the-mill, produced-by-the-millions kind of mug, but a unique, one-of-a-kind mug, handmade and identified by the craftsperson’s initials or maybe even numbered. For me, it is the hands and the ability of the creator that enhances the value and enjoyment of that mug and the coffee within!
The same thought applies to us, both physically and spiritually. Through this week’s message based upon the text of Genesis 1:26-28 we will witness the extraordinary value and dignity each one of us possesses in that we are literally handcrafted of God, being fearfully and wonderfully made.
