In my own experience, many things in life are made more enjoyable with a “double portion”. For example, two scoops of ice cream are definitely better than one, two days off are preferred to one, and why settle for the “Little Buddy” of Diet Coke when you can have the “Mega Buddy?”
Now that you are thinking “double portion” let’s shift gears a bit from the physical to the spiritual, as is the aim of our text for this week, 2 Kings 2:1-15 and specifically verse 9 where Elisha requests a “double portion” of Elijah’s spirit. The question thus posed for us in the text is this: What is the spirit Elisha is referring to? By God’s grace, we will come to answer that very question!
