All of us have experienced a day, a week, or even a season when our joy has greatly ebbed or has been taken away. The times when problems mount, God’s purpose and plan are hidden from us, or when everyday burdens become overwhelming. You are not unique in this, and Psalm 126 addresses this topic from the vantage point of God’s people spending some 70 years in exile in Babylon and returning with a joy tempered with the reality that things were not as they had left them and that the travails of restoring a community of faith appeared daunting and impossible.
We have much to glean from this text and will focus this week on responding to the question we all have likely posed at some point in our in our lives: “How do I rediscover a joy that has been lost?”
