It is most certainly true that wherever and whenever God is at work so also is Satan. We have all been there and done that: When the Holy Spirit calls you to conviction regarding sin, Satan calls you to excuse or rationalize it; when the Holy Spirit calls you to change in your life, Satan calls you to stay the course; where the Holy Spirit opens the door of opportunity, Satan will attempt to close it through a variety of means. Nehemiah experienced the same. In the age old script of God calling and Satan responding with roadblocks, we can learn a great deal from Nehemiah, a man called to a great work but faced with Satan’s distractions on many fronts.
As our congregation faces likely the biggest decision in our 32 year history we can learn invaluable lessons from one of my favorite Old Testament figures. As you prepare your hearts for Sunday, it will be very helpful to read Nehemiah 2 which will be the basis of our message for Sunday titled “Arise and Build”. By God’s grace we will discover together what God is calling us to and how Satan works to draw us away from this.
