I recall fondly one of our first activities of our many visits to Bismarck, ND to see Gloria’s parents. Upon our entrance to their condo and after the removal of shoes and the sharing of hugs and greetings, we would then remove the battery from the clock that hung on the kitchen wall. The ticking of this clock wasn’t so much the problem, but laying in bed at night trying to fall asleep and hearing a chime every 15 minutes was misery for Gloria and I! However, although we stopped the clock from ticking, chiming, and keeping time, time nonetheless moved on (and Gloria still struggled to sleep!!)
This memory came to mind in my prep for this week’s sermon, where we will journey to the first part of chapter 3 in our study of the book of Ecclesiastes. In reading verses 1-10 we will find a poem regarding time, a topic of great interest to us all. Whether we are ‘finding time’, ‘wasting time’, ‘making time’, ‘passing time’, or ‘out of time’, our lives are spent under the hands of a Divine Clock. Solomon has many lessons for us in this text, and Lord willing, learning more about “time”.
Tick Tock Goes the Clock
