The Truth of Discipleship

The Truth of Discipleship

It has been said that we are living in a post-truth era, but what does that mean? The post truth era, as defined by oxford dictionary is, “Post-truth is defined as “relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief.” In the post-truth era, life discussions are no longer based on objective facts, but it is based on how each individual determines the validity of facts based on how they feel about them. Our culture now is made up of competing perspectives and opinions of “what is truth”. The question that we have to ask ourselves is, “how do we as disciples of Christ share the truth of the gospel in the post-truth era?”

This week we are going to be looking at 1 Timothy 4:6-16 and what we see is that the truth of a disciple of Christ, that Paul wrote to Timothy, is still true for us in 2021. The characteristics of a Disciple of Christ that Paul defines are universal and timeless. In our Sermon text this week we will see that a disciple of Christ knows sound doctrine, they bear fruit in their life, they are not restricted by age, and they practice what they have been taught. As disciples of Christ, God created each of us for a specific reason and that purpose is to be used to glorify Him with our life.
