In the early days of pastoral ministry I quickly learned that the one individual of our many Sunday volunteers that really needed to be alert and listening was our sound man. The lesson was learned the hard way in that I enjoy singing but do not possess a ‘singing voice’. On more than one occasion I would observe the congregation looking over at me all smiles and I quickly realized that my mic had not been muted and they were rather amused by my ‘joyful noise’!! When the suggestion arose that I control the microphone from the power pack I wear underneath a suit, I quickly agreed; yet, even now Jay Chapman catches me forgetting on occasion and ‘saves me’ (and you!!) by quickly hitting mute! Thanks Jay!!
This week in our study of Psalm 92 we will consider the unique designation of this Psalm as a “Sabbath Song” and discover the two primary reasons it sets forth as to why we sing on Sunday, and all the more when the pastor’s mic is on!
