Imagine yourself sitting alone, locked behind bars in a barren prison cell. Your only company is your depressed, angry, guilt-ridden thoughts. Time is at a standstill as you wait for the day when the warden will come with the key to open the cell door and announce that you are free to go.
Can you conceive of that kind of reality? Many of us don’t realize that we are in that exact place, but with one difference—the cell door is ajar, and we are free to leave at any time, if we so choose. We worship the King who forgives all our debt for eternity, so that we can be free to walk out of a prison of bitterness, regret, and loneliness and into the life of freedom and joy that the Lord Jesus has for us!
Reading Matthew 18:21-35 will be good preparation for this message.
