Many of us are familiar with the idea of recipes, which describe to us how to properly mix something together that results in a delicious treat or meal. And it is likely that if you have spent any time in the kitchen pouring over a recipe card, you know from experience how important it is to measure correctly each ingredient in order to arrive at a dish or meal that tastes good. And of course, the consequence of not measuring incorrectly!
As we work through the texts of 1 Corinthians 8-9 and 10:22-33 we will discover that this truth can also be applied spiritually. For although an important ingredient of the Gospel consists of freedom or liberty, this liberty applied in full measure apart from necessary compliment of love results in a very distasteful dish. This is the dilemma we join Paul in this week in a sermon titled “Be Wise: Christian Liberty and Love.”
