I would submit that most of the action of our lives can be listed according to two headings or types: proactive or reactive. That is, we either act with the intent of having someone else respond or we respond to someone else’s actions. Of course, given the broken world we live in this scenario is not always fulfilled according to our desires, yet Psalm 86 provides for us a glorious picture of what this can and should look like in real life. In this text David enumerates for us many ways in which God acts, and correspondingly, a number of ways which we are called to respond.
As you prepare your hearts for worship this week it will most helpful to meditate on Psalm 86 as we will review actions from God’s side and reactions from ours. Lord willing, I look forward to worshipping with you on Sunday!
